Critical Reflection Michelle Harvey

I think for me what stood out in this module is the fine balancing act between creating a high performing culture and also being very aware of psychological health and safety. Providing the staff with tools to help them succeed, coaching, encouraging and rewarding along the way will ultimately build a psychologically healthy workplace environment. Gathering data and putting together an HR Strategy plan is critical for the success of the employee and the organization as a whole. All the moving parts must be recognized in order to be effective and be efficient. There are many areas in which I can improve our organization. One of the ways that I learned is to continue to add an employee first lens to the work that we do. We have made intentional efforts to move this way and will continue to do so. We also need to address workloads in our organization. As a not-for profit it's common for staff to wear many hats and as the work increases learning what to let go of is critical moving forward to avoid staff burnout.

Hi Michelle,

Great reflection! I love the movement towards employee-first lens. That's critical to helping improve employee health and wellness and performance. I volunteer for a non-profit, so you are right about many hats and lots of work! Being aware of workload and making sure employees take breaks and time off is key.
