Integrated and Ongoing
Reflecting on Unit 1, my biggest takeaway is that Psychological Health and Safety (PH&S) is an ongoing effort that needs to be integrated into all levels of an organization. Leadership is key to setting the tone, expectations, and giving the permissions to make this a priority. However, you need buy in from all staff. At the end of the day, the culture of an organization is defined by the people in an organization. PH&S needs to be a priority for everyone in an organization to get traction and move things forward.
PH&S is not a one-time effort, it requires intentional planning and work. I think implementing strategies that support PH&S in the workplace can sound overwhelming, but you don’t have to start from scratch when doing this work. There are lots of great things already going on in every organization that likely foster PH&S. It makes sense to recognize these efforts and build off what is already in place. This creates opportunities for discussions to take place organizationally, on where the gaps are and the best way to tackle these. The best part of taking an organizational approach and involving people of all levels of in this work, is they can help find lasting solutions. This can result in some of the most innovative and inspiring conversations.

I agree that this is an ongoing commitment and that senior leadership commitment is the cornerstone to a successful program.
