CWHP-A Reflections: Unit WWC00

Employee Wellness - Priority One

This unit has been quite interesting and in the background information and the related standards. As well I found that a lot of the strategies and information aligned with what we are trying to achieve with our safety program

The key take away I have is the employee wellness initiatives based on consultation with staff and not created by a committee locked in a room with a standard. By involving all staff, the many and varied need needs of the work force are identified, from the new employee to the long-term employee. Needs such as childcare, senior parent care, flexible work hours and shifts are required to achieve an effective wellness strategy. By adjusting to the needs of staff and aligning organizational objectives to match physical and psychological wellness objectives a high functioning culture can develop.

Cheers,

Hi Merlin, I totally agree and very accurate reflection! Standards are there to serve as guidelines and not a process to copy and implement in an organization right away. It is critical to involve employees, to listen and allow them to speak and be heard. Then, our role is to integrate/align these ideas to the organizational objectives and develop a strategy that works to improve employee well being and support business outcomes. Cheers!
