Unit 1 Reflection
Critical Reflection
Starting this unit/accreditation, has helped me to better appreciate the interwoven nature of wellness and high-performing workplace cultures.
Although I have completed the psychological health and safety advisor training in May 2021, as a school district, we are yet to implement the standards, in part due to COVID-19 and other organization strategic priorities that have taken precedence. Refreshing on the standards has better helped me re-align the focus and energy to create the business case to move this work on. This will support addressing some of the systemic issues that are present, that often sit outside of the Wellness teams direct control to change (e.g sometimes district and at times Ministry of Education levels) but we as a program can advocate for change, seeing how the issues impact elements such as absenteeism rates, EFAP and other benefits utilization data and direct feedback and staff morale.

Hi, Debbie:
I love your insight and appreciation of "the interwoven nature of wellness and high-performing workplace cultures." Your focus on the opportunity that the Standard offers to dig into systemic issues that are present and often outside of the control of Wellness teams is also bang-on. Advocating for systemic change is simply said, yet not always easily done. This is where practitioners of this important work can support each other.
I look forward to learning with you on our Wellness Works journey!
