Unit 1 Reflection......Can't be Haphazard!
As I reflect, I realize at the beginning of this course, I was saying to myself, oh yes we do that, oh yes we plan that and as I went through it I realized, we didnt and we dont. We sort of planned and hoped and tried to put this in place but we were haphazard about it. We didnt report, we didnt assess and honestly we didnt even have leadership buy in. We didnt engage or embed and we just sort of went along hoping a pizza party and a walking day might do the trick. I have realized it cannot just come in bits and pieces and one person cannot lead it all or make it all happen. And without this whole awareness, even a good plan will fail. Embedding it is critical and continuous assessment is necessary. Knowing this changes everything, mostly it changes me, my perspective and understanding and with this, I feel the next workplace initiative will be robust and holistic, fulsome and embedded!
There is a quote that says we do not rise to our dreams but fall to the levels of our systems. This reminds me of what you are saying and of a common theme expressed in these comments. I definitely felt like our organization had a better grasp, and had imbedded more of the practices. And I thought that be having leadership sponsor my attendance to this course that we had buy-in. What I have learned, much like you have expressed that cannot be lead by a single person, it has to be organization and operational mandated. Something that is part of the culture from all levels, where everyone has a strong understanding of PHS and can contribute and innovate change as needed.
