The Influence of Hierarchy
I was fascinated to learn about the different forms of workplace hierarchies and how they can influence the health and performance of employees. I've worked for several organizations with ladder-shaped hierarchies and never worked for a triangle-shaped hierarchy which seems to give the best performance results. I am almost at the lowest level of the ladder, right before front line employees. I can say that our top leaders have their own portfolios which leads to competition for who will "shine" the most to the detriment of others. I believe a triangle-shaped hierarchy would be much more beneficial and reach the same goals and probably perform better. Very difficult to share ideas and be creative when you can't get the messages to the top.

Great post, I couldn't agree more. It would be nice to know that our thoughts and ideas were being shared to the right individuals. I have also worked at a number of organizations with ladder shaped hierarchy which we all know doesn't work. Thank you for sharing your reflection.
