Workload management: the key to employee engagement & a successful wellness strategy
The biggest theme that stood out to me this unit was effective workload management and how crucial this is for fostering employee engagement and wellbeing. Overwhelming workloads lead to burnout, disengagement, and higher turnover, whereas balanced workloads lead to improved productivity, morale and job satisfaction. As a workplace wellness manager consulting with various organizations, I would apply this understanding in a few ways. Review the external and internal environment of the organization to gather a better understanding of what could be impacting the employee experience- is it the organizational structure and hierarchy that impact wellbeing, or is it the built environment? I would analyze the workload imbalances such as task distribution, hours worked or recognize bottleneck areas where workload is imbalanced. I would also use the strategy map to outline to stakeholders how the root cause of employee burnout is linked to other areas of operations to form the business case for a wellbeing strategy.
