Assess & Influence
In review of this weeks unit activities, they key takeaway’s I’ll be looking to implement are assessing current state and influence. Assess the current state including stakeholder management, employee feedback sentiments are vital for gaining a pulse on where the organization is at today. We currently launched an employee staff survey around a wide range of HR initiatives, although some questions were related to wellbeing, I’m interested to do a deeper dive through focus groups or 1:1 sentiments to further understand the employee view. Influence through leadership, driving the message of mission, importance and clarity on the direction and impact of the organization as a whole is crucial. Without that, we lead employees with unclear direction and lack of information – which leads to creating their own stories.

I like your idea of focus groups and 1:1 sentiments, Alexandra. This would work in a culture where employees feel safe - sadly, I have experienced employees not wanting to even complete a survey due to fear of their responses being linked back to them and their job being in jeopardy because of it. Ensuring they understand anonymity and including a section on surverys for comments under each question and at the end would certainly help dig deeper into assessing the current state so that we get a true picture. I will continue to think about your focus group idea and how that can be implemented at times. Thank you, Joni
