Critical Reflections Integrated Planning
Looking back at this unit as it focuses on planning and engaging different departments. Something I realized that each area or focus group has their own challenges and one size does not fit all. As I look at the positive to negative of last year, I learned the dynamics of male vs females engage differently. As we are a 65 to 35 male dominated work force, the participation for males is not the same as what female tend to find important. Interesting that some of our mental wellness initiative we less engaging than the competitive challenges. Sometimes you get discouraged as you spend a fair amount of time organizing the event and really hope the employees will come on board and enjoy it but do not see the value in it. Our recipe challenge did not take off as well as I thought it would but it became the talk after we finished the contest and many employees came back and said they would definitely participant next time and had a lot of fun. Not everything turns out as you hope and sometimes things lead to other events. I would definitely involve more employees to come onto the wellness team from the start and do more physical activity challenges and travel to other locations. This year with COVID I was forbidden most of the time to go to different locations. Probably not do the mental health activity and try a different approach to see if we can get more engagement. The New Year challenge I just started in Healthy Habit so I am hopeful that one will have employees pumped to join. Overall I know not everything we try is going to be a hit but we don’t know until we try it.

Hi Susan, this is so interesting but also unfortunate that the men were not as engaged on mental health issues when statistically, Canadian men experience such high rates of depression, substance abuse, and suicide. I hope your next initiatives got everyone more connected, but as you say, it's not a one size fits all problem to fix!
