Critical Reflection on Building a Health and Performance Strategy

I learned a lot in this unit and what it takes to build a strong health and performance strategy. One thing that really stood out is this truly is a whole team approach. The information gathered encompasses the entire team. Listening to the thoughts and gathering data from employees allows you to build a personalized plan that not only addresses the organizational needs but the needs of the employees. Having measurable outcomes and goals is a critical piece of the plan and holding staff accountable to the outcomes and really involving them makes them feel like the plan belongs to everyone. At the beginning of my journey to build a health and wellness plan I thought the responsibility fell upon the HR person alone. Through this unit I have a different lens that I will apply going forward.

I also held the faulty belief that all the responsibility fell on me or HR alone, and sometimes I still find myself slipping back into this perspective. However, since completing this unit it's become easier and easier to separate from this belief and think of this work through a deeply layered, shared responsibility lens.


And I don't know about you, but this perspective is also a relief. It takes the weight of feeling I need to do it all on my own off my shoulders and is ultimately more sustainable because if this work solely was on "us" and we left the organization, all that meaningful work would stall or worse, leave with us.
