Trust Your Gut, Back It Up with Research - Final Reflection
Looking back at the entire first level of certification (I’m so excited to progress to the next!) I feel both validated and stretched. There is an element of trusting your gut here, and having the research, facts, and data to back it up. I feel like my instincts have been on the money, but I also feel like I have learned so much!
I keep thinking about Hustle Culture (working in start ups, this is all too familiar) and how pushing yourself to the limit is a badge of honour. What happens at the limit though? Everyone taking this certification knows that it is unsustainable, but it is so important and valuable to know how to show the teams we work with that. Instead of metaphorically waving my arms in the air trying to warn leadership about dangers (burnout, high turnover, presenteeism, etc) that they just don’t want to see, I have the tools and the confidence to put a real plan into action.
Proactive planning, collaboration throughout the organization, and being ready, willing, and able to adjust my approach are all things I want to take with me moving forward. Also, I plan on keeping elements like the 13 Psychological Health and Safety Factors at the forefront of my mind, because it is simply so true that if any one of those factors is missing… well, there’s a problem that needs addressing!

Love this. Leadership buy in and sponsorship is key! So true about having that plan of action to not only address things like burnout, turnover etc-but also the factors they care about (ie the WIIFM, and their pain points)!
