Creating safe spaces
Working in the forum of human rights leadership, I have often asked myself how can I integrate wellness and safety into this very important sector?
Working through the readings and question, there has been great clarity in the connection between wellness, CSR, ESG, SDG2030 and human rights.
DEI is at the forefront of leadership in most sectors. Employees are demanding we do better. And, as Maya Angelou states, when we know better, we must do better.
Investing in our teams (human capital) is an investment in our future. Organizations that have strong values that align with their mission and vision create a workspace that creates an environment of learning, growth, creativity, innovation, and engagement. And, ensuring that there are policies and practices that provide a culture of wellness and safety, embracing diversity as a strength, and safe spaces for those brave conversations builds the foundation for individuals, teams, and organizations to thrive.
Peace begins with each of us. When we find work that is impactful and meaningful, and a place that will allow us to have a life/work balance, we are better able to contribute not only at work but at home and in our communities.
So, the goal is to create safe spaces for brave conversations where we can build long term, sustainable cultures of positive peacee and a world leaving no one behind.
Value based leadership and transformational leadership often work hand in hand. Together we are better. Together we are stronger.
There are three levels to DEI: individual, organizational, and systems. When we look at the needs of individuals, we can offer the tools and resources needed to create equality. And, when organizations work towards this goal, it opens the door to systemic changes and removal of barriers. This is true DEI. Although this is a work in progress, each of us, our workplaces and our systems need to work together create the change the world needs and a world leaving no one behind.
